PSP - Having Fun

Using Layers with Paint Shop Pro 6

We used the images in the PSP 6 Objects folder to create new graphics. Here are the four I created:

Opacity Changes and Text Layers

bridges - old and new

For 35 years we lived in Savannah, GA, and saw the Cockspur Island Lighthouse in the mouth of the Savannah River many times. It has been out of commission for many years, but was restored about 20 years ago. The Tybee Island Lighthouse replaced it and still guards the mouth of the Savannah River, as it signals where the entrance is located. I don't have a lot of pictures that I thought would combine well, but was able to resize these of those two lighthouses and combine them into the old and the new in lighthouses.

Quick Image Effects

Before I saw this section of the lesson, I had already used these two images in the above assignment. (Because I am already late with this lesson, I am not going to go back to redo the one above using new images.) I resized the images before I merged them into layers in the assignment above.

As you can see here, I am not too steady with the mouse in using the eraser tool. LOL Perhaps one day I will buy the tools to make this easier. (Right now I just spent nearly $400 on a zip drive and disks, as well as two new modems and a new sound card which were taken out by a lightning strike, so that will have to wait!)

In this part of the assignment, I used the Mt. Fuji image and added a layer with the camera and the hands. Then I created another layer and, using tubes, added butterflies and airplanes. The fourth layer consists of the text.

This tutorial has been very helpful in my learning more about how to work with layers. I had played with them a little on my own, but this clarified what I had already learned.

This last picture is one I did for another online class, colorizing a black and white picture. When I was married 42+ years ago, photographers made black and white pictures. So I have taken my engagement picture and colorized it, using layers. For this assignment I added another layer - my wedding picture (which has not yet been colorized) as if I were thinking ahead to the wedding.

Gosh, this is fun! I really enjoy these lessons.

I have just one question I had planned to ask in the online session last night. Had unexpected out-of-town company (a couple who are our best friends) drop by around 4 p.m. and they stayed overnight so I had to skip the session. Anyway, I can't figure out how to Flood Fill the background layer with a pattern (I guess that meant a graphic) used as background on my page. Do I have just one oar in the water (my elevator doesn't go all the way to the top, or I'm one sandwich short of a picnic) or what? Can't quite figure this one out. ROTFL
