PSP 8 - Moving on Up

week 1

I have been playing with PSP 8 since Beta 5 and have learned a great deal about it, but thought the class would help me in areas I haven't discovered yet. There are still things I am looking for, but I have found that the Help files are better in PSP 8 than they have ever been before (and I've been using PSP since version 3).

The background of this page was made using PSP 8's seamless tiling capability. Goodbye 20/20!!! Yeaaaaaa!

I set up my workspace as soon as I got the final version of PSP 8. I created special toolbars with some of the tools I use most so I could click on them and not have to go through the menu system. It looks like this:

One of the things I'm learning to do is to script. One of the mailing lists I'm on has had a lot of discussion of scripting and many scripts sent in. I can see that learning to script is going to mean learning at least the basics of Python - back to programming, which I haven't done since I retired (except HTML coding).

Here are several things I've done using scripting. One script was done by Willy, one by me, and one came with PSP 8.

The "pinched frame" script I used on a picture of my 10-month-old grandson, Parker. I thought the patriotic theme was appropriate for this time of year. It distorted his arm and made his face thinner.

This is a sigtag I made from a script I did. I got my idea from a tutorial, but made changes that I felt worked better (at least for me) and then scripted it. I need to work on it to make it more interactive (as to the size and font for the name).

This is a cabin in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee where we have often hiked. I used two scripts that came with PSP 8, one for the needlepoint effect and one for the photo edges. Then I added the background so it would more nearly match the bg of my page.

I decided the only way to really get comfortable with PSP 8 is to go "cold turkey," and not use PSP 7 (though I have had to "fire it up" a couple of times in helping others through another mailing list where I am a tutor). So that's what I have done.

PSP 8 has some other really exciting new things, like the Learning Center and the Guides that go with it. The organization with the My PSP 8 Files under My Documents is great, too. I made the lighthouse sigtag from a tube and directions from one of the Learning Center Guides (can't remember if it's one that came with PSP or one that someone sent out on one of the mailing lists I'm on - if it's yours, let me know so I can give you credit).

And here's a tag I made with the text on a curve. It expresses my feelings.

Not Addicted to PSP

(I've done a lot of other graphics with PSP 8, but don't want to bore you with any more! LOL)

I'm trying to be very careful about using graphics that might be copyrighted. As far as I know, none of the ones here are copyrighted. If you see one that is yours, please let me know and I will either remove it or give you credit (your choice).
